The Vesper Serpent

by Illuminated Void

/
1.
Mother Snake, Mother Snake, Which of mine offerings will you take? Which of mine virtues claimed must I now forsake? Lest it be courage and a coward I am become, By your evening shadows, through prickled thicket and glen, I would run from thee, I tell you, I would run! Lest it be honesty and a liar I am become, By your gentle voice, and in every word - the fruit of wisdom, I would be pursued and punished by way of the splitting of my tongue. Mother Snake! Mother Snake! Must I sacrifice? Would you not just hold me until mine breathing stops, And I fall asleep so soundly within your serpent vice? Why must thou demand so harsh a thing of me? Thus the puzzle of my soul is made, built upon the years and years. When at last I had thought there should be no thing Left that I should fear, You escort my mind 'neath the twisting vines Of that hallowed promenade. And when we happen upon the garden I was forbade, In formidable movements and speech you plead.

about

The Vesper Serpent is the second album from Illuminated Void, a dark ambient project by Matthew Schmitz steeped in esoteric and spiritual motifs. The Vesper Serpent is a singular track juxtaposed with both deep abyssal movements and neo-classical and folk passages which evoke a sense of mystery and of an obscure space which exists between waking and dreaming, between this world and another. Melodies and arrangements were chosen that explicitly manifested a synesthesiatic quality, evoking colors, shapes, and even picturesque twilight environments within the mind of the listener. The Vesper Serpent is an album not for the casual music collector, but for those who actively seek to connect to some other reality through the energetic exchange brought about by sound.
